Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Advises students who apply for short-term institutional loans.
- Advises students on educational related financial matters including budget planning, repayment of loans and grants, and related financial aid options.
- Assists students in filing formal applications for all types of student aid including work-study, loans, grants and scholarships; explains related procedures, requirements and obligations.
- May act as college liaison internally to local, state and federal agencies.
- Performs verification as required by federal regulations.
- Maintains records and prepares related reports as required and in accordance with established policies, procedures for governmental regulatory agencies.
- Reads and interprets regulations relevant to Title IV student financial aid assistance programs.
- Assists in development and implementation of a student financial education program.
- Applies knowledge and understanding of cohort default rate management, student loan repayment options and current tax regulations in relation to financial aid.
- Posts related student loan data into the student operating system to ensure timely enrollment reporting to the National Student Loan Database System.
- Assists in the development and implementation of a robust training program for staff.
- Provides exit counseling support services to students and campuses by presenting to an audience on student loan entrance and exit counseling including financial literacy.
- Conducts and facilitates financial education activities including educational programs and outreach to current and former students.
- Counsels student loan borrowers on available repayment, deferment and forbearance options and assist past due borrowers in making payments with loan services.
- Regularly conducts analysis of data sets and provide trend reports and insight/recommendations for the improvement of borrower repayment behavior to management.
- Requests and retrieves reports from NSLDS (National Student Loan Data System) to facilitate effective management of student cohort groups and repayment data.
- Maintains current knowledge of federal Title IV regulations, state rules and institutional policies pertaining to financial aid to develop and present strategic training to internal and external staff members on default prevention, financial literacy, and delinquency management.
- Maintains knowledge of Title IV awarding, satisfactory academic progress, and basic accounting principles for cash management.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Required Education: Associate's degree in Business Administration; Public Administration; Psychology or related field.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in related field.
Required Experience: With Associate:
Four (4) years of experience.
With Bachelors:
Two (2) year of experience.
***Related experience include experience as a financial aid advisor; prior experience and knowledge of financial aid verification and award processes.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Working knowledge of financial aid federal site (NSLDS, COD, and FAA ACCESS or CPS) Financial Aid software systems (DataTel and Image Now preferred) and all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Knowledge and skilled in verification process.
- Knowledge and ability to counsel students and parents on FAFSA application and utilization while effectively communicating financial aid award options e.g. (Pell Grant, Wisconsin Grant, Institutional grants and scholarships, Promise Scholarship, Work Student, and Federal Student loans.)
- Skilled at organizing and presenting financial aid information to parent and student groups.
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment delivering excellent student service support.
- Ability to keep complex records; assemble and organize data and prepare reports from such records.
- Ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well with students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, students, and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment.
Supplemental Information
Start Date:
The position supports the department of Financial Aid and is available immediately. This is a continuous recruitment and applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.
Hours/Location:
Hiring to fill one (1) full-time vacancies, 1.0 FTE, 38.75 hours per work week.
Vacancy will be based out of the Downtown Milwaukee Campus
Hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Hourly Rate:
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
