Admissions and Financial Aid Officer - School of Medicine - Georgetown University Medical Center

The Admissions and Financial Aid Officer serves as a primary contact for prospective students, maintaining a portion of the 17,000+ applications for six programs within the School of Medicine and responding to questions and concerns regarding admissions policies, procedures, course requirements and other related information.
  • Communicates our mission and vision with the purpose of maximizing the quality of applicants to the medical school through graduate fairs, virtual fairs, presentations, and social media
  • Participates in evaluating application credentials on a portion of the completed files for a first-round application cognitive and non-cognitive review based on general criteria established by the Committee on Admissions and the Senior Associate Dean for Admissions
  • Working directly with applicants - prospective, interviewed, wait-listed, and accepted, periodically presents -through formal presentations and informal conversation in a variety of settings - an overview of the School of Medicine (philosophy, curriculum, school resources, and student life) and the application process to medical schools
  • Ensures successful management of the application management system and regularly interacts with outside vendors, the general public, prospective applicants, and current applicants
  • Serves as the primary contact along with the other Admissions and Financial Aid Officers for students regarding interview day; meets with interviewed applicants in a group setting for a formal welcome; and as needed, meets individually with the interviewees who have further questions regarding the application process as well
  • Works closely with faculty and staff to ensure successful execution of interview days.
  • Assists in the processing and maintenance of student's financial aid applications at the School of Medicine
  • Assists the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid with the implementation of all policies and procedures governing institutional financial aid programs; and helps to assure compliance with Title IV and Title VII regulations, and other federal regulations as they apply to student financial aid programs and institutional policies in the administration
  • In collaboration with the other Officers on the team, maintains an up-to-date understanding of state, federal and institutional legal, fiscal and statutory regulations pertaining to financial aid and to assure compliance for the School of Medicine; and assists in the completion of reports for federal and state agencies, annual audits and/or program reviews


Work Interactions

Reporting directly to the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, the Admissions and Financial Aid Officer ensures proper implementation of federal regulations and university policy regarding both federal and institutional financial aid; and collaborates and shares responsibilities with other Admissions and Financial Aid Officers.

They maintain a close working relationship with other administrative offices within the School of Medicine, including Advancement, the Dean for Medical Education, Student Affairs and the Registrar; and works with both Law Center & Main Campus Financial Aid Offices, the Office of Student Accounts, University Information Services, and with representatives from outside lending institutions, the Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services and the United States Military.

They make presentations and participate in informational sessions regarding financial aid to applicants and medical students; and assist the Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid through attendance at official School of Medicine functions - such as Parents Weekend, Second Look Day, Office of Advancement-sponsored student and alumni events, and medical student class meetings; and participates in professional development seminars and federal training as necessary

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with MS Excel and Access
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary as well as strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to interact with all members of a team and administrative staff in a professional and courteous manner
  • Some experience in Web Design or related activities for updating content of Financial Aid web site
  • Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations

Preferred requirements
  • 2 years of experience working in Admissions and/or Financial Aid
  • Working knowledge of student information systems, with experience in SCT's BANNER
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • High comfort level working with data
  • Excellent communication and organization skills - both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work on deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA


The expected pay range for this position is $44,022 to $55,000 per annum.

Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
